About Abu Dhabi Combat Club

The Club and the competition ADCC World Submission Fighting Championships were the idea and creation of a UAE national Sheik Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the son of then U.A.E. leader Sheik Zayed.

In 1993 after watching the first U.F.C. match, Sheik Tahnoon became a fan of MMA. Shortly after that he started studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in San Diego, California. Upon completing his studies, Sheik Tahnoon returned to the U.A.E. but his passion for martial arts did not stop. Sheik Tahnoon set out to create and build his vision of implementing Martial Arts not only in his native U.A.E. but also creating a standard for which all ground fighting martial arts would be measured.

Sheik Tahnoon’s aspiration to promote martial arts in the U.A.E became reality through his dual approach: establishing the ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) and repurposing a disused facility in Abu Dhabi as a martial arts club. By recruiting highly skilled instructors in a range of martial arts disciplines such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling, Sambo, and Muay Thai, he equipped the world-class facility with exceptional resources, enabling them to offer in-depth training to aspiring fighters. This led to the ADCC becoming the leading facility for MMA training in the Arab world.

RephraseADCC facilities offer instruction in a variety of martial arts disciplines such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sambo, Boxing, Kickboxing, Judo, Wrestling, and others that are useful in the context of MMA and No Rules Fighting. The trainers at the facility are highly skilled and experienced in these arts.

Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through nutritional education and physical fitness in various aspects of self defense, which in turn helps build self-confidence in them.

ADCC World Submission Fighting Championship:

Sheik Tahnoon created the best grappling tournament in the world – called submission fighting.

As Sheik Tahnoon practiced and became fluent in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, then Sambo, Judo and wrestling, one significant flaw arose. Each style claimed to be better than others, but with no set standard of rules – it was hard to prove. From here, Sheik Tahnoon created a new competition with a new set of neutral rules that allowed practitioners from various backgrounds and styles to compete against each other, except without the brutality of strikes.

In 1998 the first Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) World Submission Fighting Championships was created. The rules of ADCC rewarded points that allowed all the grappling styles equal chance additionally, ADCC allowed most submission attacks (except for spinal attacks) thus unshackling the restrictions of each martial art style and creating a neutral ground where GJJ, Sambo, Judo, Wrestling and any other fighting style could compete against each other.

ADCC continues to grow worldwide, attracting new competitors, giving rise to new stars and attracting audiences all over.
